Our First Video Selection, ‘Heaven will be Heaven again’  features one of Casa Humana’s own, Colin Weibe, formerly of the Randy Bachman band, who is also the creative director for Casa Humana. This song was written and performed by Colin and filmed in and around Port-Au-Prince Haiti in the summer of 2012.

The second selection, ‘Villages of Hope, Haiti2012‘, is an overview video of how the project came to be and clearly paints the picture for the immediate goals while showcasing the scenery and wonderful people around Mirebalais Haiti.

Disaster Stikes

1Following the devastating Earthquake in Haiti, we worked tirelessly to get food, water and supplies into Port-au-Prince via the Dominican Republic. We were among the first to make a difference in the largest natural disaster seen in the Western Hemisphere which displaced over 1.5 million people

The Need is there

2Recently, we were asked by key relief agency operators to apply the same skills, abilities and relationships previously exhibited throughout the world to provide quick, durable and inexpensive housing to disaster stricken Communities. The Villages of Hope, Haiti Project, was an outgrowth of that request.

The First Goal

3The aim is to provide permanent Haitian Communities capable of providing transitional housing, medical facilities, schools, commercial buildings, hospitals and medical clinics, commercial facilities, retail stores, and factories

Then, who are We?

4Our Management Company, Casa Humana, is a group of diversely skilled business people who saw a need for housing, accommodations and real-world solutions in disaster stricken areas throughout the world.

Under the management, oversight and skilled leadership team of Casa Humana International, the Villages of Hope Haiti project gets underway to build permanent housing solutions in Haiti.

The Story of John Wesley

John Wesley is fifteen, though lack of proper nutrition from a very early age makes him look more like he’s twelve. When I asked if he would like to share his story with me there is no way I could have anticipated what he was about to say.

John Wesley began by explaining that from a very early age his father abandoned he and his mother, and then she began living with another man. When he was about seven his mother sent him to live with what become the first of a long list of individuals, from extended family to complete strangers, because she could not care for him. From that point on hard physical labor, beatings, whippings and constant hunger followed him as he was passed from person to person to be used as their servant. After years of suffering at the hands of many John Wesley had almost given up hope; the abuse was constant and his circumstances just continued to get worse.

And then…about 6 months ago John Wesley’s father passed away and even though he had long ago abandoned him, John Wesley felt compelled to attend his funeral. It took place in the area where John Wesley was born, but was a long distance from where he was staying in Port au Prince; never the less, he packed the few belongings he had in a small bag and made his way to his birth place to say his final farewell to a father he hardly knew. John Wesley wasn’t the only one who felt the need to say good-bye; the woman and the child that had been abandoned by this man in life, would be reunited because of his death. John Wesley’s mother had also heard the news and made her way to the town where they were from to attend the funeral; it was here John Wesley saw his mother for the first time in years.

Today, John Wesley lives with his mother, three younger siblings and a man that he says is good to them and treats him like he is his own son, although they usually don’t have enough food to eat.  They reside in a small mud hut just down the road from our Grace House property and so I have the opportunity to see John Wesley and his little brothers, Paul Kindeson and Johnelle, as well as his mom, nearly every day. The little boys play hide and seek, tag and soccer with the other boys in the neighborhood, but John Wesley is most often subdued and sticks close to his mother, always with bright, but slightly sad eyes and a kind smile. The best part of John Wesley’s story is that he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior during the first week of January when a college mission team came down to serve with Grace So Amazing Ministries, and shared the life saving, life giving gospel of Jesus with over one hundred children and adults. John Wesley was also baptized in the river on the very first Sunday of the year, right after our first Grace Chapel church service that afternoon.

John Wesley is hungry to learn more about Jesus and loves his Creole Bible that he was presented with at his baptism. He has attended every Grace Chapel service and study we’ve had so far; and most importantly, for the first time ever, he has hope!

This story of a broken life and a fractured family is just one of many more stories of children who are abandoned, beaten, forsaken; children who need a loving home, andsomeone to care for and protect them from the cruelty of wicked oppressors, but most don’t have such a positive outcome.

Grace so Amazing Ministries exists because many have seen and understood our vision to rescue and care for the ‘least of these’. As the New Year unfolds, our work seems ever increasing as we become aware of so many more children like John Wesley, who need our love and our help.

Construction on the orphanage is underway, but we are in need of financial support in order to finish, so please pray the LORD will open hearts to give generously so that we may soon have a place for many suffering children to call home. Will you please prayerfully consider assisting in the work, through prayer, financial assistance or mission team involvement?

My heart is ever broken for the children of Haiti, and I pray yours will be too.
